Casa Sorbello
Set within woodland on a south-facing hillside, Casa Sorbello enjoys stunning, far-reaching views over the Tuscan landscape. The main house, which dates to the C18th and has accommodation arranged over two floors, occupies a broad terrace above an olive grove with gardens stretching out to the east and west.
After purchasing the estate in 2020, our client has embarked on a very sensitive refurbishment which has included a significant single storey extension enabling a reorganisation of the ground floor living spaces and a much stronger visual connection with the surrounding landscape. The entrance hall to the east extends to form a central circulation spine at ground floor level with service spaces to the north and primary living spaces to the south. The ground floor accommodation now culminates with an expansive open-plan space at the western end of the house, accommodating the main kitchen and dining space. It opens out onto a generous southern terrace with panoramic views over the valley below.
At first floor, the bedrooms and their bathrooms have all been carefully refurbished. All rooms have beautifully framed views of the surrounding landscape.
Externally, the landscape surrounding the main house and nearby cottage have been extensively remodelled, with a new formal garden to the east in front of the main entrance and a series of terraces to the south and west with a generous staircase leading down to the swimming pool.
There is no doubt that our client’s meticulous approach and the close collaboration with an experienced and knowledgeable project manager based in Tuscany were key to the success of this project. A local architectural team led on the technical design and construction. Paul Evans Architects provided support to our UK-based client with the development of proposals including the internal fit-out and furniture design.
A constant focus on achieving a high quality of construction, together with the careful selection of materials, has resulted in a beautiful, well-appointed house providing a tranquil base in the Tuscan hills.
